Today's YouTube video (see link below) tries to answer the question as to whether stress can cause neuropathy. In the end, the doctor here suggests that stress can indirectly cause neuropathy but the jury's still out on that one. The point is that many people with neuropathy are desperate to find a cause for their problems when really they should be concentrating on the treatment and living with the disease. Especially if you've left the doctor's appointment with a vague diagnosis of 'idiopathic' neuropathy (cause unidentified), you begin to look at the rest of your life to find explanations and causes. If at that time, you're also under a lot of stress, then it's logical that you may lay the blame there but that's not based on scientific fact. On the other hand, if you've got neuropathy in your life, you can easily become stressed, if only from the symptoms alone. So, does stress cause neuropathy? In all likelihood no but does neuropathy cause stress? You betcha!
