Caution Before Going Gluten-Free For Neuropathy Sufferers (Vid)

Today's video is a response to the latest hype on the neuropathy pages of the internet concerning gluten-free diets and a consequent reduction in neuropathic pain. Ralph Turchiano quite rightly strongly points out that the current wave of gluten publicity is based on the finding of a correlation between gluten and nerve pain, in a small recent study. Bear in mind that a correlation is not proof of a cause! The rest of the internet has rushed to draw conclusions that are most likely premature but nevertheless, based on the premise of the study, the likelihood of a connection between gluten and nerve pain is certainly startling. That said, nothing is proved as yet, so before you rush to try to exclude gluten from your diet, it might be wise to wait for the full conclusions of the American Academy of Neurology, which will be published in April. Neuropathy patients are quite understandably desperate for new and proven evidence that something works to reduce their symptoms but you know how the media works - rumours grow into truths before you know it and we need to exercise just a little caution and patience when it comes to gluten-free diets and nerve pain reduction.
