Today's YouTube video post is somewhat off-track as regards neuropathy but it raises important questions which affect all neuropathy sufferers who have decided to take medical cannabis to help control their symptoms. It's a video advertisement for legal medical cannabis and was presented to CBS as a candidate clip for the Super Bowl commercial list. The makers were willing to pay 5 million dollars for the right to broadcast it. So far, so good but CBS rejected it on the grounds that it is contrary to their policy regarding cannabis. Now, you can maybe understand that a cannabis/sport link up is not the most natural fit but there are other reasons why this advert may not be suitable. For a start, it's shamelessly sentimental and plays on human emotions - that could be seen as slightly tacky! Would it not have been wiser to make a commercial based on the facts (there are enough clever ad-men who could have made something ground-breaking) rather than rolling out the veterans and the invalids (however deserving they clearly are) which feeds into the insatiable American demand for sentimentality. I totally support the video in that it tries to present the case for legal medical marijuana and it's a public discussion that needs to be had but I do find the tone somewhat unsuitable and cliched. So despite the claims of discrimination and political bias that CBS is facing, I sort of understand the rejection. The ad makers could have done so much better and smarter than this. What do you think?
