Neuropathy doesn't recognise borders.

Sometimes you see something which makes you re-evaluate your own situation. HIV patients in South Africa have the same problems as everyone else and the fact that the medical authorities are using combination therapies to tackle neuropathic pain shows that they are as up to date as anyone else in treating the problem. Combining opiates and anti-depressants for South African neuropathy patients matches the newest, accepted treatments anywhere in the world. Yet you know that it's another world and another culture and the scale of the HIV problem is huge. South Africa is also in a far better position than most other African countries in being able to provide treatments and educate its people but a universal insurance scheme to pay for medicines, or automatic treatment with the latest Aids medication, is still a long way off. This video makes you take a moment to think about the hundreds of thousands of people all over sub-Saharan Africa, with the same excruciating pain that we have and only their stoicism and will power to help deal with it. A sobering thought.
